With a challenging trail run course and rolling hills bike, this is a great event for final prep for Oceanside or to start prepping for race season. This year, the race will be held on a Sunday!
When: SUNDAY, March 23, 2014 - 7:00AM (RACE START TIME!) Registration will be open 1 hour prior.
Where: Located off of Carmel Valley Rd. just minutes from the 56 Freeway, our Transition Area will be set up at a local little league park.
From 5 North or South: Take 56 East. Exit Black Mountain Rd. and turn Left (North). Take Black Mountain Rd. until it dead ends into Carmel Valley Rd. Make a right onto Carmel Valley Rd. and then make a left at the first stoplight. You'll go up a steep hill and be in the parking lot for the fields.
From 15 North or South: Take 56 West. Exit Black Mountain Rd. and make a right (North). Take Black Mountain Rd. until it dead ends into Carmel Valley Rd. Make a right onto Carmel Valley Rd. and then make a left at the first stoplight. Head up the steep hill and into the parking lot for the fields.
Transition will be set up on the grass adjacent to the parking lot. Look for triathletes doing triathlon things.
The run is a hilly 2.25mi. counterclockwise loop taking you down into the Black Mountain Ranch trails. The run starts on a slight down hill, followed by a right hand turn and very steep downhill section before leveling off. Just after the 1st mile, you'll make a left and immediately have to deal with the hills you got to run down at the beginning. You'll take this back up to the parking lot to transition and begin your bike. Here's a link to the course:
The bike course will lead you on an 11.6mi., clockwise loop of the surrounding Black Mountain and 4S Ranch communities. Athletes will exit the park by heading down the steep hill & making a right onto Carmel Valley Rd. From there it's an exciting decent for the 1.5mi before making a right onto Camino Del Sur. From there get ready for another decent before getting into the rolling hills of the area. You'll stay straight on Camino Del Sur as it transitions into Camino Del Norte. Just before mile 9, you'll make a right turn onto Bernardo Center Dr. for a very fast decent down into the valley before completing the final climb between mile 10-11. You'll make a right turn back into the park (don't forget the very steep hill into the park!) and head back into transition. From there its another loop on the run course, then the finish. Once again, some friendly reminders:
The bike course is an OPEN COURSE. There are cars, joggers, other cyclists on the road. Be respectful of them, and obey all traffic lights and signs.
Helmets are mandatory. No headphones on the run or bike. USAT rules.
