The Triathlon Club of San Diego, in association with TriJuniors, a draft-legal triathlon on April 14, 2012. The event will be open to all junior triathletes who would like to get experience in a draft-legal race.

The objective of the format is to transition athletes from entry-level youth, or “kids”, triathlons, into draft-legal youth elite and junior elite competition. This enables more young athletes to become competent in the draft-legal race format before committing to national-level events.

The race will consist of a 300m swim (2 loops with a short beach run), followed by a 12km bike (3 laps), and 2km run (2 laps) on TCSD's normal Fiesta Island course (see map below). Start time will be 6:55am - all racers will be encouraged to arrive no later than 6:00am. It is the responsibility of each racer to be prepared for riding in a pack. As such, the following bike rules will be in place:

  • Wheels must have at least 12 spokes
  • Regular, double-triangle frame, (Standard Road Bike)
  • Standard drop handle bars, (NO AEROBARS)
  • Bar ends must have plugs

Bikes will be checked to make sure they are legal before the race. If the racer is under 18, a waiver MUST be signed race morning by a parent or legal guardian. All racers must be members USA Triathlon and enter their USAT number below. You MUST show your card on race day during registration. Membership in the Triathlon Club of San Diego is required. TCSD junior memberships are only $45 and may be purchased separately after your register for the race.
